How to Read the CYCS Series Results
Understanding the Classic Yacht Challenge Series (CYCS) standings is easy once you know the basics:
How to Qualify:
- For the Overall Series: A boat must be a CYOA Member and compete in at least 5 races across 3 different events in 2 or more districts.
- For a District Award: A boat must race in 3 races across 2 events within that district.
- Boats marked N/Q (Not Qualified) did not meet these requirements. Boats highlighted green have met these requirements.
How Scores Are Calculated:
- We take each boat’s best race scores that meet the qualification rules.
- Each score is a High Point Score (as defined in Section 7.3 of the Notice of Series).
- That score is divided by the number of starters in her division for that race.
- The result is turned into a percentage, and then we sum those percentages and multiply by 100 to get the final Series Score.
Why You Might See Different Placings:
- Some regattas group boats differently for racing purposes. For Series scoring, we re-sort the results by CRF Division, not the original event class.
- For example, your finish position at a regatta might differ from your Series Division standing.
- Special Note: At Eggemoggin Reach Regatta, ERR Handicap was not used for CYCS scoring.
Our Goal:
The CYCS aims to encourage friendly competition while providing a fair and transparent system to compare boats across events.
We’ve taken great care in compiling and scoring these results.
