Annual Meeting 2019

On Saturday, November 9, 2019, the Classic Yacht Owner's Association held their Annual Meeting and Fall Party in the Arcadia Room of New York Yacht Club in Newport, Rhode Island.

We would like to thank our sponsors Gowrie Group and PURE Insurance.

CYOA Members and Associate Members traveled from all over the region to attend the Annual Meeting followed by a cocktail party and the awards for the Classic Yacht Challenge Series. The meeting's agenda was led by Matt Brooks, secretary, and included electing new executive and technical committee members before a review of the budget and expenses of CYOA.

Managing Director, Bill Lynn, reviewed 2019 before opening the meeting to discussion and questions. Overall, membership concerns were to foster fairness of the Classic Rating Formula, class organization at regatta, and encouragement of participation.

Ted and Shiela Graves from Indian Harbor Yacht Club reminded everyone of the importance of making it fun. Their successful Fall Regatta focuses on listening to participants to make it enjoyable for all the participants. Graves explained that at this year's start, the roar of Ticonderoga reaching by at the start was something he will never forget. "We need to create more opportunities that can benefit everyone," he concluded.

Following the meeting, a cocktail party with pass appetizers allowed the attendees to socialize. Before the evening wrapped, awards were presented to the winners of the Classic Yacht Challenge Series.

  • Spirit of Tradition - Blackfish, Ron & Carolyn Zarrella
  • Vintage - Dorade, Matt Brooks & Pam Rorke Levy

  •  Reliance Trophy (Most Races Sailed in the season) - Polly, Peter Gallant
